Barcelona are under scrutiny as to their next move for Torres and he has now confirmed that he is not in any better or worse position than he was earlier this week, despite having a contract with the Catalan club.
The Spain international’s remarks follow growing speculation about a move to Paris Saint-Germain which is said to be preparing to begin talks for the move.
Torres Admits His Barcelona Future Is Uncertain
Torres is still under contract with Barcelona but the 26-year-old has admitted he may yet be in for a change of plans before the summer transfer window ends.
During an interview with The Today Show, the forward said he hasn’t made a final decision on his next move.
The uncertainty has fueled speculation of his departure from Camp Nou, especially as PSG are said to be keen on speeding up the process.
Barcelona Must Show They Want Torres
Barcelona will also have to prove their interest in keeping him at the club, Torres added.
The forward said he would be discussing with the two sides before he makes a decision on his future.
His remarks are especially important as Barcelona are said to be interested in extending his contract, but have made little headway in recent weeks.
PSG Preparing to Push for Transfer
Barcelona are said to be interested in signing Torres to a new deal with PSG.
The Champions League champions are thought to be eager to make the move as soon as possible, possibly ahead of Torres returning to Barcelona for pre-season.
Torres is also a familiar name to PSG manager Luis Enrique, who will have worked with the Spanish national team, making the move even more attractive to the French club.
Barcelona Still Want Torres to Stay
But PSG’s interest has grown and Barcelona’s stance is that Torres isn’t for sale.
If the player makes it clear that he wants to leave, however, the situation could change. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has also said in the past that he wants to have players who are 100% committed to being part of his team.
Barcelona also have a big decision to make with Torres, who is due to finish his current deal this season.
Torres Has Become Important to Barcelona
Barcelona’s hesitation to part with Torres is understandable, as there are not many alternatives to Flick.
However, it is believed that Torres is the only natural senior forward option for the manager after the departure of Robert Lewandowski. He can also play in various attacking roles.
Barcelona are still trying to lure in Julián Alvarez but the deal for the Atlético Madrid striker seems to be getting more and more difficult. This is a tricky situation for Torres to be in.
Barcelona Cannot Afford to Lose Another Striker
If both players leave Barcelona, they have been a combined 40 goals for the team last season.
Barcelona’s wide attacking arsenal has been bolstered by the arrival of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi, although neither of the players fit the mould of a traditional No. 9.
Consequently, Barcelona would have to be extremely cautious before they sign Torres, as they would have to weigh their squad options before making the move.

The next few weeks will decide whether Torres will stay at Camp Nou or embark on a new chapter elsewhere.
Barcelona will have to make a decision on whether to speed up the talks for PSG or whether they should look into selling him.
If Flick and the Barcelona hierarchy decide to let Torres go without signing another proven centre-forward, it could be a big issue. Regardless of the choice, the Catalan side will have to deal with the matter wisely to not start the upcoming season without any attacking options.
