Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has called on the Gunners to make a big move in the transfer window to sign Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior, who he feels could bring Mikel Arteta’s side to a new level.
Arsenal Eye Vinicius Junior as Major Summer Target
Vinicius’ future at Real Madrid is still up in the air, as the Brazil international is in his final year at the Spanish giants. It is believed that Arsenal have become one of the clubs that are interested in signing the 26-year-old.
The winger is one of the most dangerous forwards in Europe. Vinicius has directly assisted in 37 goals and scored 69 of the 106 goals he has helped produce in LaLiga this season, since the start of the 2021-22 season.
He is still a threat to beat defenders as well. Vinicius dribbled 87 times in the top five leagues in Europe during the 2025-26 season, while Lamine Yamal and Yan Diomande were the only other players to have more.
Wilshere Believes Vinicius Would Send a Strong Message
Wilshere believes it would demonstrate to everyone that Arsenal are not complacent following their Premier League win.
The former Arsenal midfielder said that a player like Vinicius would bring strength to the club both on and off the pitch, as well as commercially.
The Brazilian would provide Arteta with yet another attacking threat and would also demonstrate that Arsenal have high aims in Europe.
Bruno Guimaraes Also on Arsenal’s Radar
Vinicius is said to be not the only Brazilian international that is on the radar of Arsenal this summer. Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has also been rumoured to be interested in joining the Gunners.
But Arsenal have been reported to have rejected a bid for the midfielder and Wilshere has said he feels the Portuguese international could be a great signing if the north Londoners finalise a deal.
The midfielder’s technical level, drive and centre of the midfield game influencing ability could fit into the current Arsenal midfield setup.
Wilshere Insists Declan Rice Remains Crucial
Wilshere doesn’t think that Declan Rice will not be a key figure in Arsenal’s plans despite the possibility of another big name midfielder arriving.
Rice has been a key figure in Arsenal’s success and has been a staple in Arteta’s midfield. Wilshere believes the England international deserves a break from a difficult time.
However, if he can be brought on, it could bring some depth and competition to the midfield for Arsenal.
Arsenal Looking to Strengthen After Premier League Triumph
Arsenal are now seeking to capitalise on their Premier League success and are looking to build up instead of stand still. If they do go on to Vinicius, it will be one of their biggest statements.
The Brazilian can bring the Brazilian dimension to the Gunners attack, goalscoring and his explosive dribbling, while a signing of Guimaraes will bring another dimension and quality to Arteta’s side.
Should Arsenal be able to attract either of the Gunners – or both – then they will make it clear that their Premier League campaign is far from over.
