Villarreal have officially beefed up their goalkeeping unit by adding Péter Gulácsi from RB Leipzig. After weeks of talks with the Bundesliga outfit, the La Liga outfit confirmed the deal.
The veteran Hungarian keeper joins La Cerámica with the Yellow Submarine looking to add a bit more depth and experience between the posts ahead of the new season.
Villarreal Agree Deal for Péter Gulácsi
Villarreal confirmed the deal with RB Leipzig for Gulácsi on Monday.
The 36-year-old keeper will sign for the Spanish outfit on a two-year contract, providing Villarreal with a veteran in a critical role.
The transfer is a major boost for the Yellow Submarine as they look to continue their campaign in La Liga’s competitive division.
Goalkeeping Reinforcement Becomes a Priority
After the departure of Diego Conde and Arnau Tenas, Villarreal’s need for a new keeper became more and more apparent.
Conde went on loan to La Liga rivals Real Betis and Tenas also departed to Mallorca. Villarreal had to look elsewhere for goalkeepers as both were heading elsewhere.
The club then narrowed down its list of possible targets, and Gulácsi eventually became one of the club’s preferred targets.
Gulácsi Brings Experience From RB Leipzig
Gulácsi has a wealth of experience in the highest level of European football, having come to Spain with a lot of experience. The Hungarian keeper played for RB Leipzig for many years and was a regular presence in the Bundesliga.
His experience, leadership and pressure play could be useful for Villarreal as they look to bolster their team.
The goalkeeper will also be expected to add more competition in the Villarreal team and add stability to the role.
Villarreal Confirm Two-Year Agreement
The Spanish club officially announced the deal via their social media account, stating that they had reached an agreement with RB Leipzig.
Villarreal said Gulácsi will be the club’s goalkeeping option for the next two years, and it was a crucial component of their summer signing campaign.
Now signed, Villarreal can focus on getting Gulácsi ready for the next season and settling him into the team.
