Despite reports that the deal was imminent, RB Leipzig managing director Marcel Schäfer has been adamant that a transfer agreement with Real Madrid for Yan Diomande has not yet been concluded. The 19-year-old winger has been in the spotlight for a transfer to the Spanish giants after making a strong impression in his first season in the Bundesliga.
Leipzig Deny Real Madrid Agreement
There had been reports that Real Madrid were close to signing Diomande, with Fabrizio Romano earlier stating that the deal was in the process of being agreed. But Schäfer has since denied that and emphasized that negotiations are not at that stage.
“That’s not the case, it’s obvious that some so-called transfer experts reported a few days ago that the deal was done or that they said, ‘here we go,’” That’s not the case yet,” Schäfer said.
Agency Dispute Not Blocking Transfer
It had also been rumored that a disagreement between agencies representing Diomande may be holding up the transfer. Diomande was previously managed by Maxidel Management, before being announced as part of the Roc Nation Sports agency group.
There had been reports that the switch in representation might have made it difficult to negotiate. But the agency situation isn’t hindering a possible transfer, Schäfer said, noting that Leipzig’s current point of contact is Roc Nation.
Real Madrid Face €120 Million Negotiations
Real Madrid are said to be willing to pay around €120 million for Diomande, with a fixed cost of around €100 million. Leipzig, however, are thought to be looking for a price nearer to the €130million they are said to be worth, so there are still financial differences to be sorted out between the two clubs.
Diomande has also been reported as missing the pre-season training camp in Leipzig, while the future of the forward is still up in the air.
Diomande Could Become Real Madrid Record Signing
The transfer, if made, would be a massive move for Real Madrid and could be the club’s most expensive signing. The teenager has been sought after by a number of big European clubs but Madrid are the frontrunners.
But for now, Schäfer’s words have made it clear that the deal is not complete and more talks are required before Diomande can officially join Real Madrid.
